In calling this share house a farm, we have established certain expectations in the minds of our friends that are often not met when they come to visit. That is, our farm looks more like a garden at the moment. The current definition of farm implies production on a certain scale and with an obvious commercial dimension, where as garden in a domestic context is descriptive of things growing on a small scale for personal use in a yard, be it food or flowers. But ultimately we have called our house a Farm to establish our intentions. We aren’t working on this full time at the moment but we hope to gradually shift our energies towards growing more, eating more of what we’ve grown and also potentially selling some of our produce. Yesterday we took a significant step in that direction by donating a harvest of mustard greens to Alfalfa House. It was very exciting to see our produce in the co-op and hopefully we can do more of it in future!
